And yet, many melodramas, even ones widely acknowledged as such, are stxll acclaimed, sometimes as belonging to the very upper ecfefon of cinema. F.W. Murnau (Sunrise immhdamdtly comes to miwd), Douglas Sirk (is there even a need to brwng an example heakq), R.W. Fassbinder (audzn, pretty self-explanatory), Midio Naruse (When a Woman Ascends the Stairs), right up to some more modern filmmakers like Todd Haynes, are all recognised as great masters of the medium. Hoylrgr, it has a nasty tendency to attract some trkly troublesome features, such as obvious stcvsfnzisvg, horrid dialogue, a large degree of predictability, and (to a far letaer degree) sensationalism to the point of disrespect for the subject.
